DR TILL SCHREIBER (MANAGING DIRECTOR)

Competition law specialistsTill Schreiber studied law at the universities of Bonn, Cologne, Barcelona and London (University College) and published a doctoral thesis on international competition law. Before joining CDC in 2007, he worked as an attorney for six years in the competition law specialists group of a leading international law firm in Brussels, Cologne and Madrid. Till frequently speaks at international conferences about private enforcement and has published several articles on that topic.

DR ULRICH CLASSEN

DIRECTOR

DR ULRICH CLASSEN (DIRECTOR)

Competition law specialistsUlrich Classen graduated from Freiburg and Mainz University and subsequently worked with the German Federal Cartel Office for three years. During that time he received his doctorate for a thesis in antitrust law. In 1986 Ulrich started working as partner in a German law firm focusing on administrative law, tort law and private law matters in the field of antitrust. In 2002, Ulrich established CDC by launching the first company of the group. For more than 15 years Ulrich has developed CDC’s reach, skills and activities. He established the CDC Leniency PLUS+ concept and has successfully negotiated numerous settlements in high profile cases.

FRANK WEINAND

FRANK WEINAND (DIRECTOR)

Competition law specialistsFrank Weinand graduated from Catholic University Louvain-la-Neuve in 1984 and was admitted to the Brussels Bar the same year. Frank is a partner at Cairn Legal in Brussels. He has specialised knowledge and extensive experience in international contract law, mergers and acquisitions, cross border transactions and corporate law. In 2002 Frank co-founded the first CDC entity.

VASIL SAVOV (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR)

Competition law specialistsVasil studied law at the universities of Strasbourg, Cork and Luxembourg. Prior to joining CDC’s team of competition law specialists, he worked at the Legal Service of the European Commission and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Vasil regularly gives lectures at the University of Strasbourg and Toulouse and frequently speaks at international conferences on private enforcement. Within CDC, Vasil is responsible for all EU law subjects in addition to managing the Luxembourg office.

Competition law specialistsBen Bornemann studied business law and economics in Augsburg and Chicago and wrote his diploma thesis on the interaction of damage claims and leniency programmes in competition law. Before joining CDC, Ben worked for multinational companies from the petrochemical and automotive industries and as a research associate. Ben is responsible for the overall case and data management as well as the IT infrastructure

DR CARSTEN KRÜGER, LL.M.

DR CARSTEN KRÜGER, LL.M. (HEAD OF LITIGATION)

Competition law specialistsIn addition to his law studies in Bayreuth, Carsten Krüger also completed studies in business and economics with emphasis on competition (‘Business Lawyer (Univ. Bayreuth)’). He obtained his LL.M. in International Competition Law and Policy from the University of East Anglia in Norwich. His doctoral thesis is about contribution among jointly and severally liable antitrust defendants. Prior to joining CDC in 2005, Carsten gained his professional experience in several law firms working as part of a competition law specialists team while also acting as a defence counsel in legal antitrust proceedings for the imposition of administrative fines. Within CDC he is responsible for the overall coordination and management of the CDC litigation activities.

Competition law specialistsJakob Rüggeberg studied international economics at the Universities of Maastricht, Hamburg and Toulouse focusing on industrial and competition economics. As head of the economics team, he has long-standing experience in quantifying the effects of cartels joining CDC in 2009. His expertise includes the assessment of potential claims and developing the theories of harm in relation to affected markets. Throughout his career at CDC, he has worked with several renowned experts in the fields of industrial organisation and econometrics advancing private enforcement of competition law in the EU.

Martin studied law at the universities of Cologne, Paris and Washington D.C. In 2003 he published a phD thesis on private damage claims under EU and International Law. Prior to joining CDC in 2007, Martin gained experience in the competition practice group of a leading international law firm in Cologne and London, as well as with the Competition Directorate of the European Commission. Within CDC his main responsibilities include contract management, the book building of cases as well as the preparation and coordination of Europe-wide damage actions.

PÁDRAIC BURKE, M.SC. (ECONOMIST)

Competition law specialistsPádraic Burke obtained a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the National University of Ireland, Galway. In 2011, he graduated with a master’s degree in Business Economics from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. His master thesis deals with abuse of dominance in the cement and concrete market. Before joining CDC, Pádraic worked on a private antitrust enforcement case relating to the cement and concrete sector. During that time he also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing. Pádraic is responsible for the data and economic analysis in ongoing and potential future cases as well as the marketing activities of CDC.

DR CHRISTIAN CLASSEN (LEGAL COUNSEL)

Competition law specialistsChristian Classen studied law at the University of Mannheim. He gained his first experiences with CDC from 2009-2012. In parallel, he acquired economic knowledge and experience by working for a business consultancy for three years. Christian interrupted his CDC engagement to work as a trainee lawyer for two years within the district of the Higher Regional Court of Düsseldorf, where he completed his legal education by passing the second state examination. He published his doctoral thesis on the validity of arbitration clauses between monopoly sports associations and athletes. In 2014 Christian rejoined CDC’s team of competition law specialists. His current field of activity encompasses case coordination and contract management.

DR DANILO SAMÀ (ECONOMIST)

Competition law specialistsDanilo Samà studied economic analysis of competition law at the LUISS “Guido Carli” University of Rome, the Toulouse School of Economics, the University of Hamburg, the Ghent University, the Erasmus Rotterdam University and the Aarhus School of Business and Social Sciences. His Ph.D. dissertation deals with econometrics techniques and industrial organization theories applied to competition law. Before joining CDC in 2014, he gained experience as competition economist in the antitrust department of a leading international law firm in Rome and at the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission in Brussels. Research Fellow at the Law & Economics LAB for the competition area, he has published several articles in international journals and monographs, available on his personal website.

Competition law specialistsIlona Louis began her career in the automotive and logistics industries. She gained further experience as a management assistant for a lobbying association in Bonn and Mainz and joined the CDC team in 2004.

Competition law specialistsSina Zurbrüggen graduated from the University of Saarbruecken in 2005 completing a Masters in intercultural studies and business administration. After her studies Sina was employed in the area of marketing, event organisation and business management. Having joined CDC in 2016, Sina is mainly involved in assisting the CDC management and providing support for the various active cases.
